GMAT DS RATIO

What is the value of the ratio of x to y^2?
(1) The ratio of x^2 to y is 5/3.
(2) The ratio of x to 1 is 5/3.

I thought this would be a simple problem but I was not able to deduce x/y^2 from the info given. Can someone please explain it.

statement 2 actually gives you value of x.

Put that in equation from statement, you have y. (No need to actually do it, its a DS question)

you have x, you have y, sure you can find out x/y^2.

Answer is C.

Stem 1 is not sufficient.

Stem 2 only says x stands for 5.

so combining both we can get the value of x/y^2.

Statement 2 actually says that x is equal to 5/3, and not 5. Ratios are just fractions; the 'ratio of x to 1' is just equal to x/1. If 'the ratio of x to 1 is equal to 5/3', then

x/1 = 5/3
x = 5/3

OA is C. I dont know why I was trying to deduce the actual ratio.
