Of the 9,000 people who voted in a recent election, how many women voted for candidate X?

(1) The percentage of women voting for candidate X was twice the percentage of women voting against candidate X.
(2) Three thousand men voted for candidate X.

B/E....pl explain.
can we assume ...any other candidate (say Y).??

or... men voted+women voted=9000 (only for candidate x)
so..B is sufficient..

Both the statements are not enough.
From statement 1) we don't get the number of women or men in the total
same is the case from statment2 which doesn't tell about total men.

even if both the statements are combined we will not get any information of total men or total women in group

so answer is E

Wfx + Wax + Mfx +Max = 9000

where fx implies for X and ax implies against x

(1) says Wfx = 2Wax

substituting back in original, we get => 3Wax + Mfx +Max = 9000

We cannot find number of women who voted for x. Thus A and D are out.

(2) says Mfx = 3000

substituting back in original, we get => Wfx +Wax +Max = 6000

cannot find number of women who voted for x. Thus B is out.

Now, combining the 2 statements we get

3Wax + Max = 6000

We still cannot find the number of women who voted for x.

Key is - do not forget about the men who did not vote for x

Thus E is the right answer
