710 v40 q48 - Should I retake?

by ThinkingWatNext » Sun Jun 10, 2007 8:57 am
Hi Stacy

My Profile:

I scored a 710 v40 q48
I am an Indian-IT-M-24
GPA 3.1
4years workex in 2008
Organizer of a computer literacy initiative for for government schools - operating under the banner of Azim Premji Foundation
Head of a committee that has instituted a scholarship for economically disadvantaged school kids

My Question:

Do I have to retake the GMAT

1) if I want to get into the top 10 BSchools in US.
2) affect my chances of a scholarship at universities like
Krannert or Fischer or Boston ?

Thanks
-Vidya

Stacy .. Got the answer to my first question from your posts.

So just need an answer to my second.

Will my GMAT score be a deal killer in obtaining a scholarship at Krannert, Fischer, Boston or Erasmus?

Thanks

Vidya,

I am not an expert by any means but I have the same GMAT scroe (48Q, 40V) and I have spoke with several consultants and alumni of top 10 B-schools and the general consensus seems to be to take it again if you felt like a 710 was not your best. You have nothing to lose. Focus on verbal, 2 48s is around 750. This will erase any doubts created by your lower GPA. I am retaking it, but it’s up to you.

Thanks Chris.

Realized that I made a mistake with the GPA computation.
Mine is 3.5
Didnt realize that I put in a 3.1 till you pointed it out.

Thanks

I would never encourage you to retake. Your score is fine! There are plenty of other things you could be doing at work and in the community that will meaningfully enhance your candidacy. However, it is true that you have nothing to lose - so if you feel that you can really improve and you have the time, go for it! Again, NOT NECESSARY.
