Recommenders

by aham » Sun Sep 09, 2007 4:36 pm
Hello Stacy/Amy,

I am planning to get my recommendations from a couple of managers from my previous job. They know me well l as I worked with them for the last 3 years. However, I have seen a lot of posts that suggest one to get at least one recommendation from the current supervisor.

I switched jobs only 3 months back and my current boss will not be in a position to go into the nitty gritty details. Moreover, our nature of work is such that he does not get to know anything about me other than the fact that I am working on project XYZ.

Given this situation, do you think I should still get a recommendation from my current supervisor? I feel that my former employers would be able to write recommendations with a lot of specific examples.

Please advise.

rgds,
aham

Hi aham,

For most schools, if you don't use a current supervisor you will need to explain that choice. I think your explanation is reasonable, so it should be fine.

Good luck!
