Lets say total profit = 80
majority owner made 25% of 80 = 20
remain = 60
Each of the remaining 4 partners make 25% of 60
Each rem partner gets 15
Majority owner + 2 partners share = 20 + 15*2 = 50
50 / 80 as % represents 62.5%
since 62.5x/100 = 62500
total X = 100,000

The owner gets 25% of the profits
This leaves 75% of the profits to be split 4 ways among the partners
So, each partner gets 75/4 % of the profits

The majority owner and two of the owners combined . . .
These 3 people get 25% + 75/4 % + 75/4 % of the profits
This is the same as 25% + 75/2 % of the profits
Or . . . 62.5% of the profits

These 3 people receive $62,500

If T = total profit, then 62.5% of T equals $62,500

At this point, it should be clear that T = $100,000

Answer = A

To determine what fraction of the profit was received by each person, plug in a value for the total profit.
Since the owner receives 1/4 of the total profit, and each partner receives 1/4 of the remainder, let the total profit = the product of the denominators = 4*4 = 16.

Amount received by the owner = (1/4)16 = 4.
Remaining profit = 16-4 = 12.
Amount received by each partner = (1/4)12 = 3.
Thus:
(Amount received by the majority owner and two partners)/(total profit) = (4+3+3)/16 = 10/16 = 5/8.

Since the actual amount received by the major owner and two partners = 62,500, we get:
5/8 = 62,500/x
5x = 8 * 62,500
x = 8 * 12,500 = 100,000.

The correct answer is A.
