Student Enrollment (experts please help!!)

by macattack » Mon Jul 29, 2013 2:51 am
Student enrollment at Central High School has declined in each of the past five years by an average of 7.9 percent, although graduation rates have risen. Therefore, the school should focus less on graduation rates and more on trying to attract new students.

The answer to which of the following questions would most likely point out the illogical nature of the conclusion drawn above?

1)What would be the consequences of an increased student dropout rate?

2)What is the average age of students applying to study at Central High School?

3)Are students applying at other high schools more academically committed?

4)Where are graduation rates of regional high schools compiled?

5)How would the school budget be affected by a new student recruitment program?

Help please.

Hi macattack,

What is the source of this question? I only ask because if "feels" like it's missing something (eg the actual argument/"why" the conclusion should happen). For example, a "plan" prompt might include info about the School Principal who wants to do something at this school and is using the data as a means to justify the conclusion. As it currently stands, several of the answers have nothing to do with the prompt, so they could be eliminated rather easily.

Hi Rich, i read this question on some blog and copied it to my PC. I honestly have no idea about its source; however every time I encounter this type of CR question where the answers are formulated as questions I tend to have difficulties to find the best solution.
