Nope, you are not allowed to bring a calculator of any kind into your test.

Wow...I read it on the rules that must be quite a feat to do all those math problems without the aid of a calculator.

Little background -- I am just starting to study for the GMAT. I'm reviewing the math portion of the test (geometry, algebra, ect) and although I'm pretty sure I can pull it off without a calculator I recall the problems in High School tests that it must be tough without one. Does the GMAT questions require extensive use of a calculator as in HS problems or is it more "logically" thinking using the theories used in math?

Also since we're on the topic...can you take the GMAT anytime you want or are they given at certain times of the year? Thanks

Don't worry--the math seems intimidating at first, but as you get into your prep you will realize that you can solve most problems well within two minutes on your own.

With regard to your second question--you can take the GMAT pretty much any time of the year. It's super flexible!
