Verb Parallelism

The mathematical concept of "zero" was born not in a single moment of revelation but evolved independently in several ancient cultures, including India, Babylonia, and the Maya Empire.

A. born not in a single moment of revelation but
B. born not in a single moment of revelation but was
C. not born in a single moment of revelation but
D. not born in a single moment of revelation but it
E. not born in a single moment of revelation but had

OA C


Can someone explain the difference between choice C and D?
I did eliminate all other choices but I dont quite see the difference between C and D .

I thought of E, but C is different from D. The two clause are not separated with a comma, we have not two independent clauses, but one independent and one dependent. If we have comma before but, then C is correct too.
But I have selected E in hopes to distinguish two events birthday :) of zero and its preceding occurrences...

First, "not" modifies "born". It does not modify "in a single moment". Eliminate A and B.

Second, you need to make the two verb forms parallel.



C. "not born...but evolved" - parallel

D. "not born... but it evolved" - not parallel

E. "not born...but had evolved" - not parallel

right idiom = not X........But Y. X = Y

A: idiom er = not maintain parallelism across idiom

B: diom er = not maintain parallelism across idiom

C: Maintain parallelism across idiom

D: idiom er = not maintain parallelism across idiom

E: idiom er = not maintain parallelism across idiom
