If n is a positive integer and r is the remainder when n^2-1 is divided by 8, what is the value of r?
1) n is odd
2) n is not div by 8
my reasoning:
(n^2-1) / 8 = k+r
n^2-1= 8 (k+r)
n^2-1= 8k + 8r
now plug in for n odd values and for k 1,2,3,4, etc. - we´ll see that r=0
hence 1 is sufficient...
I am not sure if I am right, can anyone confirm... ?
Thanks
