GMAT third attempt

by Mangotrees » Sun Jun 09, 2013 7:40 am
I retook the GMAT a third time yesterday. I took it last year for the first time and scored a 610 (Q43 V31). I didn't study correctly at all last year. This year I changed my approach. I did every single OG question and kept an error regularly reviewed it. I figured out why i was getting certain questions wrong. I scored above a 700 on both GMATPrep tests and almost every MGMAT test (I always did the essay and IR section to simulate real test conditions). Attempt #2: I took the real test again this past May and scored a 650 (Q43 V37). I got timed out on the Math section without having any time to guess on the last 6 questions. I was feeling pretty good about the section until then. But I didn't realize I was running out of time otherwise I would have guessed because I know leaving questions blank incurs a huge penalty. I was so upset that im pretty sure it affected my verbal score. So I rescheduled for a month later, which was yesterday. In the month I had, I focused on timing and reviewed questions I had gotten wrong on tests and in the OG. I also took 2 practice tests (one GMATPrep and one MGMAT) and scored above a 700 on both. Attempt #3: I retook the real test again yesterday and scored another 650 (Q41 V39). No idea what happened. Timing was still really tough and I felt the math section was so much harder than last time. Im incredibly disappointed that I didnt even improve. Any advice on taking it a 4th time? I feel like it looks ridiculous to admissions (and its expensive for me) but I know I'm so much better than that score. I want to apply to round 1 this fall to Kellogg, Ross, Tepper and Tuck. But I feel like I have no shot with that score.

Also Brent@GMATPrepNow I watched the video you posted about timing on my last post. It definitely helped so thank you for that! I still messed up on timing this time. I don't know how I managed to mess it up a 3rd time.

Thanks to everyone for reading this, I really appreciate the support and advice.

Your 650 will make it tough (but not impossible) to get into those schools. I recommend that you only take it 1 more time as well - if you even decide to do it.
