A) The network security team is responsible for detecting new viruses and creating software pataches to block those viruses.

B) The network security team is responsible for the detection of new viruses and the creation of software patches to block those viruses.

Folks, this is what I guess.

The word "Responsible" - my assumption is an action noun. If my assumption is right, then a complex gerund would be preferred over a simple gerund when it comes to pairing up with an action noun or a lits of action nouns. Complex gerund by definition can be an "ing" form preceded by an article and be followed by a preposition "of".

We should never using a gerund nextto preposition......it should be followed by a noun....So the answer is B

MMAT SC Guide says we must preferably use an action noun instead of a complex gerund when the noun form exits . The Sentence in B doesn't have complex gerunds . It has Nouns .
A has simple gerunds . I guess the rule that is meant for complex gerunds must apply to simple gerunds as well
PS I chose A

Hi Experts,

Please post your comments on the two sentences that are under evaluation.

I feel that both sentence are grammatically correct, and the choice of selection is based on the meaning that the two sentences are conveying.

Choice A can be interpreted to say the team itself CREATES and DETECTS, whereas Choice B says the team is overall responsible for DETECTION AND CREATION.

Please suggest ASAP.

They're both 100% grammatically correct.

I have never heard of "the detection" being called a "complex gerund" -- it's just a noun.
