Let's say that x, y and z represents the heights of Xavier, Yolanda and Zack.
Statement 1 tells us that Yolanda is taller than Zack
Statement 2 tells us that Xavier is taller than Zack
When we COMBINE the statements, we see that Yolanda and Xavier are both taller than Zack. However, there's no information to help us determine whether Yolanda is taller than Zack.
