The length of the side AB, BC and AC of a triangle ABC are 7, y and 17 respectively (y is an integer). What is the difference between the maximum and minimum possible perimeter of the triangle ABC?

(A). 9 m
(B) 10 m
(C). 11 m
(D). 12 m
(E). 13 m

The ans is D.

According to me the answer is 12

for any triangle sum of any 2 sides should is greater than the third one

14>y and
7+y>7 thus y>0

so the maximum value for y=13 , making the perimeter 27
and the minimum value will be y=1 making the perimeter 15

27-15 = 12

The max possible is when y is the longest side
7+17 >y

y>24
the max possible value is 23

minimum is when 17 is the longest side
y+7 > 17
y>10
y=11 is the minimum

Difference btw min and max = 23-11 =12
