GMAT Preparation book

by DaveT » Thu Jun 11, 2009 7:36 am
Hello Everyone,
I am in preparation to take GMAT test. I have bought the Kaplan GMAT 2008 book, but I read about OG book in this forum. English is my second language and I am not sure which book benefits me more. So my question is, should I get the OG book and work on that or just keep studying using Kaplan GMAT 2008 book. Also, since English is my second language what do you guys recommend in addition to studying the book specially the vocabulary part.
Thanks.

The OG is essential in your prep. It's got retired questions from the real thing, so it should give you an idea of what to expect on test day. Unfortunately, the OG is pretty thin in its strategy guides and this is why IMHO you should consider using both books for your prep, since Kaplan does have some consistent strategy sections.

You can improve your verbal skills by reading well written newspapers and periodicals such as the Wall Street Journal. You can improve CR skills by working some Logical Reasoning problems from the LSAT. These problems tend to be more difficult and often provide better practice.

Thank you much. My main difficulty is writing essays. Since English is my second language, I sometimes get stuck writing essays. Also, I need to improve my vocabularies. Do you think taking a writing class will help me to improve this issue? I took the financial accounting class last semester, I did really well. I really want to purse in this program. So any advice you guys I really appreciate it.
