As a rough guess..8-9 on quant, 3-4 on verbal or so.

Why would there be less margin for error on Verbal than on Quant? Isn't Verbal supposed to be the more difficult section, percentile wise?

There is no answer to this question. Your score depends on the level of problems you get right/wrong, not the raw number. If you're into the upper-bin material, you can get lots (relatively speaking, at least) of questions wrong and still get a fantastic score. Conversely, getting lots of easy questions right, while getting harder questions wrong, doesn't help your score very much.

Depends on the difficulty level of the questions you have answered incorrectly

Hi, it is strange that you are in first place thinking negetive. Why do you want to focus on how many mistakes you can make. think big and not only a particular, prepare for the best result, rest will come later.

well, since their is no particular no., onething is that you shud try and solve the first 10 Q in both sections correctly, because at higher level Q. if go wrong , your initial easy correct answers will be their to support.

GMAT 750+ [Clarification]

I am not thinking negative at all. I know it is an adaptive test where level of difficulty of problem increases. But all I wanted to know overall, approximately how many errors one can make and still get a score around 750 or 750+....

Basically to get 750 it depends on the mix of problems you get wrong for both.

You can technically get 1 or 2 wrong on the V and get around 12 wrong on the Q and get a 750.

But most people do not score like this. Ideally if you miss around 7 on each section you will get close to 750. I could be wrong, but that is my experienced and educated guess.

Good luck getting that score. That is everyone's dream around here and few actually find it. But good luck. And good luck to me.

Long story short:

No matter what anyone says, there is no way to know how many you can/cannot get right to achieve a certain score. There are too many variables involved - your place on the test, difficulty level, whether the questions were experimental, etc.

Also, be careful with the "first 10 question" strategy. Getting the first 10 right certainly does not guarantee you a good score, if you tank the rest of the exam. So yes, they are important, but you don't want to spend 5 minutes on every question, thus sacrificing the others.

So, don't overthink it, and just do your best on every question. :)

Actual, I've been tallying up what people have reported as their Quant, Verbal, and total scores and creating a chart.

What I can say is that the lowest verbal score that scored a 750 was 41.

The lowest Quant score that scored a 750 was 47.

Someone reported getting a Q47 V41 with a Total 720.

Mind you this chart is not scientific and I can only go with the info I have and my chart is mostly white spaces right now.

Just to clarify: your "raw score" - that is, the score between 7 and 51 that you're given for each section - does not tell you how many you got right or wrong, nor does your percentile tell you what percent you got right or wrong. So, you can't really infer anything from a quant score of 47 - other than that person was in the 80th (or whatever - I think it's around 80th) percentile.
