Below is an excerpt from a letter that was sent by the chairman of a corporation to the stockholders.
A number of charges have been raised against me, some serious, some trivial. Individuals seeking to control the corporation for their own purposes have demanded my resignation. Remember that no court of law in any state has found me guilty of any criminal offense whatsoever. In the American tradition, as you know, an individual is considered innocent until proven guilty. Furthermore, as the corporation’s unbroken six-year record of growth will show, my conduct of my official duties as chairman has only helped enhance the success of the corporation, and so benefited every stockholder.
Which of the following can be properly inferred from the excerpt?
(A) The chairman believes that all those who have demanded his resignation are motivated by desire to control the corporation for their own purposes.
(B) Any misdeeds that the chairman may have committed were motivated by his desire to enhance the success of the corporation.
(C) The chairman is innocent of any criminal offense.
(D) The corporation has expanded steadily over the past six years.
(E) Any legal proceedings against the chairman have resulted in his acquittal.

I initially felt C, but after I read E it is clearly E. C says innocent of any criminal offense which traps bu extending the scope. We also don't know whether he is innocent or not. we know that he has not been proven guilty which is NOT equal to innocence.

E stands as the best choice.

The answer should be D.
This is a MUST BE TRUE question.D is the only answer that can be inferred from the passage.

i think A C D n E are all restatements or premises already mentioned in the passage.

A - same as "Individuals seeking to control the corporation for their own purposes have demanded my resignation".
C - same as "Remember that no court of law in any state has found me guilty of any criminal offense whatsoever".
D - same as "as the corporation’s unbroken six-year record of growth ..........."
E - same as C.

B - i think the word "may" is very important here. B says that misdeeds, assume if at all, may have been conducted by the chairman for the betterment of the company. now this is a fair enough inference from the passage.

hence IMO B.

Stuck between A and B.

Although IMO : A.

Problems with other options in my opinion.

B. the crimes that he may have committed, were in interest of company.
Slightly Stronger, goes out of scope.
C. is Innocent or not, does not depend only on courts of every state. that too only for criminal offense.
D. expanded steadily means constant growth although stem indicates it has just expanded in 6 years, may be intermittently.
E. "Legal proceedings" has much more scope than "criminal trials by different courts". Other thing is acquittal. Acquittal means person is found not guilty and the case is over. In stem it says no court has found him guilty (as of now), may be the cases are still going on him.
When you think you can or you cannot, you are generally correct.
