(B) to identify food allergies, like
(C) to identify food allergies, such as to

Hi!
IMO C

(A)it is wrong since milk is not an example of food allergy
(B)it is wrong since milk is not an example of food allergy, like is more often used to express similarity or contrast
(C)it is correct because correct expression is "allergy to"
(D)it is wordy
(E)it is wrong since correct expression is "allergy to"

If you don't agree with my reasoning, post here. Thanks!

Hope it helps!
Best,
Maciek

allergic
/ˈlrjik/ adj. caused by or relating to an allergy: an allergic reaction. ▪ having an allergy to (a substance): allergic to the sting of bees. ▪ (allergic to) inf. having a strong dislike for: I'm allergic to the hype.

Conclusion:

Allergic to---is the correct idiom.

It is just testing the idiom "allergic to"

Answer MUST be C.

I don't really understand why the GMAT tests such things. Either you are native speaker or not. Questions like these are really disappointing.

good question. What is the source of this question.

Somehow, I don't agree with the explanation given above : Idiom "allergy to"

Here is what I found :

Researchers have questioned the use of costly and experimental diagnostic tests to identify food allergies,
such as to <identify> milk, that supposedly disrupt normal behavior.

milk is given as an example of food .
So 'to' is necessary.

If it is not an OG problem, then I would not like to remember it.
'such as to' : was very awkward for me also.
