Please help me with preparation plan

by satishkhatri5 » Sat Dec 22, 2007 10:07 pm
Hi,

I have four years of experiance in IT industry. I plan to write the GMAT exam in last week of February 2008. Till now I have completed Kaplan GMAT 2008. I have done all practice tests of this book, but none of the full practice test. Following is my score in practice tests:
1. Problem Solving - 84%
2. Data Sufficiency - 65%(Loose marks becuase of carelessness)
3. Sentence Correction - 51%
4. Critical REasoning - 75%
5. Reading Comprehension - 65%(Failed to complete in time)

I have downloaded 800 score AWA Guide, flash cards, SC notes from Sahil and Spidey. Thanks to beatthegmat for all the material and guidance.
Also I have ordered Official Guide 11th edition, which I will get by end of this month.
Earlier I was targetting to score 680 but since I have read posts at ,I just beat, I think 750 is not impossible.

I go to office daily at 8 AM and generally come back by 6 PM so can not study full time. Please suggest me how should I prepare in order to get a good score in GMAT.

Thanks,
Satish

Hi Satish:

The first thing you should do is construct a solid study strategy for yourself--one that emphasizes analyzing your weaknesses and improving upon them. For some examples check out: https://beatthegmat.blocked and https://www.beatthegmat.com/resources.html.

Be sure to download the GMATPrep tests from MBA.com. Take one of these tests early in your prep to get a baseline of your performance.

It looks like you are ordering some quality material for your prep, but the key to success is going to be staying disciplined and consistent with your studies. This will be challenging for you given your busy work schedule, but try to carve out at least an hour or two each day to preparation. Through consistent practice and smart analysis of your weaknesses, you should be able to do well.

What's your target score?

Good luck!

From what I've read in the forums, 800score.com materials aren't very good. I wouldn't use them.

Definitely use the OG 11 for untimed practice questions, and GMATPrep tests for timed tests. Did you use the actual Kaplan tests untimed for practice? I didn't understand your reference to how you used Kaplan's practice materials.

Since you need to bump up SC, I would get a book called Grammar Smart. It covers the most important English grammar rules and should help a lot. I would also add Cracking the GMAT from Princeton Review for overall strategy and for the tests. They're much better than Kaplan's.

If you can spare 2 hours or so a night for studying and more on weekends, and are focused in your practice, you should score quite well!

Hi,

From Kaplan I did all the untimed practice test from book and all timed pracatice test from CD. But haven't done any of the full practice test yet.
Next weekend I have planned to take one kaplan complete test so that I can have idea where I stand at present.

Are GMATPrep tests available for free somewhere or will I have to purhase them from MBA.com. Along with OG11 I have also ordered OG for Verbal. So still I will nead Grammar Smart or will OG Verbal do. Also if I buy Princeton review, will I be able to complete all of these books before Feb last week!

I guess I can spare 2 hours daily.

Thanks,
Satish
