It should be "comparison with" because https://www.urch.com/forums/faqs/3674-gr ... mpare.html

and should be "have" as it refers to "tropical cyclone systems" hence not has ....

My ans is A
What is OA ?

I think it should be D. Compare to and compare with both are correct, depending onthe context.

I think should be "A".

IMO Compared to = to show similarity.
Comprated with = to show difference.

BTW why A preferred over "C"

I preferred because "A" contains "broad zone of maximum winds". Please tell if there is better reasoning to prefer A over C and in case "A" is correct answer :-)

IMO C
compare with is right here as comparison is done between similar things
so D & E are out.
also at the end, has is correctly used as it refers to broad zone and not systems..
Plz correct me if I am wrong

IMO C

1) comparison with
2) Have
3) zone should be modified by Located rather than winds being modified by located

IMO A

"....subtropical cyclone systems have a relatively broad zone of maximum winds located farther from the center..." is meaningful, furthermore 'have' refers to the subtropical cyclone systems not 'broad zone'.

Please ensure you understand the meaning of the sentence as well when dealing with SC, otherwise you might select a grammatically correct sentence but with a modified meaning, which is wrong in GMAT.

would go for A

'in comparison with" is proper usage. we can take "to" or "with" after "compared".

C doesnt clarify what the zone consists of and leaves it vague. the rest of them have "in comparison to" and/or subject verb error

"systems" should be "have", cross out B and E leave ACD

"broad zone of maximum winds" should be correct, A.

IMO A


Manhattan explains:-

(A) CORRECT. The sentence is correct as written.

(B) The singular verb “has” does not agree with the plural subject "systems.”

(C) The choice moves the phrase "located farther from the center" to a new position, which alters the meaning of the sentence. The original meaning states that the winds are located farther from the center of the storm. This sentence states that the zone is located farther from the winds, which is nonsensical.

(D) “In comparison to” is not the correct idiom to use when describing the differences between like things; the correct idiom is “in comparison with.”

(E) “In comparison to” is not the correct idiom to use when describing the differences between like things; the correct idiom is “in comparison with.” The singular verb “has” does not agree with the plural subject "systems.”
