old Q but with new querry.

Found throughout Central and South America, sloths hang from trees by long rubbery limbs and sleep
fifteen hours a day. moving infrequently enough that two species of algae grow on its coat and between its
toes.
(A) sloths hang from trees by long rubbery limbs and sleep fifteen hours a day, moving infrequently
enough
(B) sloths hang from trees by long rubbery limbs, they sleep fifteen hours a day, and with such infrequent
movements
(C) sloths use their long rubbery limbs to hang from trees, sleep fifteen hours a day, and move so
infrequently
(D) the sloth hangs from trees by its long rubbery limbs, sleeping fifteen hours a day and moving so
infrequently
(E) the sloth hangs from trees by its long rubbery limbs, sleeps fifteen hours a day, and it moves
infrequently enough


Ans is (D)

If last two choices would be like this .............., then which one would be the ans & y?
(D) the sloth hangs from trees by its long rubbery limbs, sleeping fifteen hours a day and moving so
infrequently
(E) the sloth hangs from trees by its long rubbery limbs, sleeps fifteen hours a day, and moves so
infrequently

Grammar-wise, both D and E are correct!
However, E changes the meaning of the sentence. "and moves so infrequently..." tends to say that this is not connected to "the sloth hangs from trees by its long rubbery limbs". But, the question tries to say that the sloth hangs from trees by its long rubbery limbs and meanwhile moves so infrequently...

So, I would go with D.

There is a modification problem between D and E.
D uses a participle modifier that modifies the action of the sloths.
"the sloth hangs from trees by its long rubbery limbs" - this is modified by the participle phrase
the sloth hangs from trees by its long rubbery limbs, sleeping fifteen hours a day
the sloth hangs from trees by its long rubbery limbs, moving so infrequently
Both are parallel

E - the sloth hangs from trees by its long rubbery limbs, sleeps fifteen hours a day, and moves so
infrequently
"sleeps fifteen hours a day" is modifying the sloth long rubbery limbs ( since "its" is in possessive pronoun ) and so it is a wrong

whats wrong with saying "the sloth " is moving infrequently

Here "that" is underlined , but in the original source "that" is not underlined.
As per original source :
Found throughout Central and South America, sloths hang from trees by long rubbery limbs and sleep
fifteen hours a day. moving infrequently enough that two species of algae grow on its coat and between its toes.

So the option is D.
