Remember: when 2 triangles are similar, and their sides are in ratio x:y then the ratio of the areas of those two triangles is x^2:y^2

here, triangle ADE and triangle ABC are similar.

The area of triangle ABC = area of triangle ADE + area of trapezoid
so if area of trapezoid is 2x then area of ADE is x and so the area of triangle ABC = 3x

so the ratio of area of triangle ADE and ABC is 1:3 so their sides must be in ratio 1: sq rt (3)
