Five friends Andy, Brown, Caddie, Dominic, and Eric are standing in a row for a camera pose. If there are an equal number of persons standing on either side of the tallest of the five friends, then who is the tallest among the five friends?
(1) Eric and Andy are respectively standing to the left and right side of the tallest of the five friends.
(2) Dominic is taller than Caddie, but he's not standing in the middle of the row.

Statement 1:
Possible tallest = B C D
INSUFFICIENT

Statement 2:
POSSIBLE TALLEST = A B E
INSUFFICIENT


Combining...
POSSIBLE Tallest = B
SUFFICIENT

Hi Rahul,

Check your st(2) interpretation. If Dominic is already taller than Caddie, how can Caddie be a possibility for the tallest?

From the stem, we can deduce that if there are an equal number of persons standing on either side of the tallest of the five friends, then the tallest must stand in the middle.

(1) Here you are correct: Possible tallest = B C D, hence insufficient.

(2) Since Dominic is taller than Caddie, but he's not standing in the middle of the row, this means that none of Dominic or Caddie stand any chance to be the tallest, hence Possible tallest = A B E, hence insufficient.

When taken together, what is common in B C D and A B E? [spoiler]Brown[/spoiler] is the tallest guy, isn't he?
