How should the B-school resume differ?

by money9111 » Thu Jan 28, 2010 3:12 am
I've been hearing that the b-school resume should be different from a resume when apply for a job. Are there drastic differences or just subtle ones? Thanks

should have more detail on the following:

-education.. major.. . clubs/ activities
-work experience... projects/ assignments/ amounts involved/ roles, responsibilities

ideally, your resume should have points of all the areas that you want to cover in the essays

NB: The resumes & essays will be used when grilling you during the interview.. so make sure that you have something worthwhile and stuff that you can backup/ explain properly

i thought the essays were supposed to be used to show a different side of you, rather than reiterating the resume.

A job resume should focus on the relevant experiences to the job you are applying for. By the same token, the b-school resume should be tailored to convince the admissions committee. To do so, you need to show a clear career progression and focus on the achievements on the jobs are relevant to your school applications. For example, if your b-school application theme is to be an entrepreneur, then you should highlight those experiences on your resume related to your success being an idea generator and seeing things from beginning to end with your active involvement. If you want to be in investment management, you need to include experience with investment clubs or similar associations to demonstrate your efforts in the field. In short, different highlights for different readers.

If during your process, you would like admissions help, don't hesitate to contact us. We offer a free 20 minute evaluation of your candidacy available to any who are interested.

Hope this helps!

correct. they just ask for that you upload the resume. Please bear in mind that many schools require that your resume does not exceed 1 page.

yeah I'm definitely going to have to cut down some things... I've had three jobs upon graduating from College... also another question...

my first year out of college... i didn't have a "corporate job" i was an all star cheerleading coach so that was technically my full time job. in order to account for this year... i plan on keeping this on my resume as a year of an activity. do you think this is the best option?
