by HPengineer » Mon Mar 29, 2010 8:06 pm
Hey Guys I'm new to the board names Marco but you can call me HPEngineer I am planning on submitting my Bschool applications this coming fall.

I am about to start studying for the GMAT so thought I would start browsing around for information... Can someone help me out with some of the acronyms im finding on the site? For instance what does the CAT2, CAT1 stand for?? Im guessing there are practice test... How does one go aobut obtaining these practice test?

February 27- Kaplan CAT 2 630
February 28- MGMAT CAT 1 700

Another one I see people mention about is the OG 11th edition... What does OG stand for?
Also what does CR and CS mean? Sorry if these are really dumb questions im just trying to level set here.

CR is Critical reasoning it is one of the question types in the verbal section.

CS is comp sci, but you may referring to SC which is Sentence Correction, another verbal question type.

OG is the Official Guide. The latest official guide is number 12, you can find it on amazon.

When people are referring to CAT1 or CAT 2, they are usually just referring to when they took that practice test, to illustrate progression. For instance, I may say I got a 600 on CAT1 and a 620 on CAT2, its just me illustrating my progression. Most people will say which company's test they used.
