s and t

by ronsom » Fri Apr 16, 2010 7:32 pm
I came across this question in GMATPrep. I had marked s at sqrt(3).. I wonder why it is incorrect, and why its value would be 1!

Since, the 2 radii make an angle of 45 degrees each, therefore, they intersect the circle at the same height, which would be "1" as per point P. So 't' = 1. For the radii to be equivalent to sqrt( ((-sqrt(3))^2 + sqrt(1)^2) = 2, the value of 's' needs to be equal to sqrt(3).

@ ronsom
hope your query has been answered.
How have you inserted the pic in the post itself without attaching it as a file?
Thanks.

Thanks for answering my query.
I added the image to my post (Add Image) feature, but for some reason it always shows up as a small image, which enlarges to a big one on a different windows, when clicked.
