Hi Guys,

This is my question below and I didn't find any reasonable answer anywhere

How is the no of years of work experience calculated by b-schools? For eg: I am now 2.5 years experience. I may be targettinf Fall 2012. So when I am applying to schools in Round 1(october) will the schools consider me as a 2.5 yr professional or a 3.5 yr professional as I would be having approx. 3.5 yrs of experience when I am going to join the school.

I am asking this question because the school satistics of avg 4 or 5 yrs of experience is related to the full time work experience until joining the program. So how will the schools make their decisions regarding number of years

For reporting stats, they count the years WE until matriculation. So you would get the extra year between early application time and matriculation.

Hi Brian,

Yes for reporting their stats, I can understand that they count the extra year between early application time and matriculation.

But I wanted to know, when they evaulate the application early in October, will they calculate the extra time before matriculation also for the applicants, since the extra year is a big difference

Hi,

B schools generally count your work ex till joining the B school. So, in your case it will be taken as 3-3.5 years.

Honestly thats not what will make a major difference. Your role and achievements will count. Obviously if you feel that during the 3 months between R1 and R2 deadline you will have a big achievement/ award/ project/ onsite opportunity then you might consider applying in R2.

Hope this helps
