Accepted at Texas A&M MAYS

Guys,

I got accepted at TAMU Mays FT MBA Program. Got a small scholarship and resident tuition status, which overall makes the program very affordable as it's already one of the best in terms for money.

Still waiting on for some other schools (applied all in R2):

- Austin
- Pittsburgh (Just got notification for interview)
- SUNY (Buffalo)

Had pre-application interviews with Rochester (Simon). And also thinking if I should apply to McGill.

Please let me know your thoughts on MAYS, more importantly any clue on the student life / environment of the school. Is the school gloomy or fun? Is it collaborative? Would I see enough diversity?

If I get admission to Pittsburgh, SUNY, Rochester or McGill - all of which rank lower to MAYS, any specific schools you'd suggest?

My interest is : Marketing + SCM

Please post your thoughts and insight on TAMU!

GMAT 650
BS Engineering EC: Good (nothing superbly unique)

EXP: About 4 years (technology sector, product management / marketing / business development roles).

Mays is a great school I have a few friends who attended A & M and loved it. It is within driving distance in particular order to some great cities Houston, Austin, and Dallas. One of the best alumni neteworks in the world as well. Congratulations

Congrats Bro.

As per my knowledge, its a good B School, though a bit back in ranking. A very good ROI in US B Schools.

One recent news I heard, Internship to almost all guys(confirmed this with an indian in MAYS).
Also one of the largest alumni networks in the US

This is one of my target B Schools in next year application

Thanks to everyone for the positive feedback. Looking at overall expenses and what you get for money, it's really hard to choose my other choices. I'm looking forward to take up this opportunity to become an Aggie.

I have a strong feeling I will be getting an acceptance at Austin, decision is awaiting. But I'm also sure I'd have to pay quite a lot of additional $$$ for the program. Please share your thoughts, is it really worth that much over Mays? I plan to look for jobs outside US too, I think Texas A&M and UT Austin should have 'similar' value to recruiters? So if someone looks at my resume in Singapore, how much difference would it make: MBA, Texas A&M (vs) MBA, UT Austin?

Money is an important consideration for me, I can mange the extra with lot of additional stress on my financial, but is it worth? What would you do?

Frankly i was facing the same problem while making the decision between IE,Spain and MAYS and for me also the Finance was a criteria.
I think if you are looking at a job in Singapore it wouldnt make much of a difference if you go for TAMU or UTA.
Hence i would suggest you to take TAMU (atleast thats what i would have done if i were in your place)

IE has better reputation than Mays, but its depends on the jon location you wanna go post MBA.
In case u wanna go in US, Mays is better.

In case looking for Singapore Job, I wold suggest to opt for ASIAN region B Schools rather than EU/US B Schools. Except INSEAD [Too costly], SP JAIN in Singapore is a good B School in ASIAN region, ranked as 68 in FT

@ GMAT_1986_subha, How would you compare UT Austin vs Texas A&M, given my scenario. Please share some insight.

Also, don't you think a US school has a overall better global value anywhere in the world, compared to Asian schools? Worst case would be they will regard a US school as equally prestigious, if not better? From my knowledge, I've found 9/10 people immediately respect a US education without much thinking. Please feel free to share your thoughts if I'm missing anything.

US Schools definitely better reputated than any other B Schools. But from my personal point of view, I give a good point to ROI & employment %. In both the cases, some Asian colleges are better than any middle tier US B Schools. In case you are not looking for Asian job, obviously US B Schools are good one.

UT is better than TAMU in most academic categories, but going to TAMU isn't going to confine your opportunities when you graduate. Going to TAMU gives you a great Aggie network that in my honest opinion will give you better networking abilities than at UT.
You'll find great people and opportunities at both schools, it really just comes down to where you think you'll fit in and where you can see yourself at more than the other.

However as per an Indian Alum of Wharton, it may be easier to get a job in Texas as a graduate of A&M's business school because of their alumni network. But again, Both these B Schools have their own strong areas. Not sure about UT strong area[it may be finance & accounting], but Mays is strong in general management & entrepreneurship.

I believe the attitude at A&M is much friendlier. Much more student oriented.

All of these are my opinion after reading about both the MBA. You have to find your fitments based on your requirements.
