[x]

If [x] denotes the greatest integer less than or equal to x , is [x] =0 ?

(1) 5x + 1 = 3 + 2x
(2) 0 < x < 1

Can you please explain with your reasoning?

IMO D.

Statement 1.)

Use algebra to find that x = 1/2
The greatest integer that is less than 1/2 is 0. Note: it can not be one because 1 is greater than 1/2
Suff.

Statement 2.)
Same logic as statement 1. Even if x = .9, [x] = 0 because it is the closest integer that is less than x.

Suff.
