what is the value X?

1) when x is multiplied by 8, the result is between 50 and 60
2) when x is doubled, the result is between 10 and 15

the answer is E but i got C

what do you guys think ?

The question stem doesnt mentions that x is an integer.

Statement I

8x = between 50-60

x could be anything from 7.0 to 7.4

Insufficient.

Statement II

2x = between 10-15

x could be anything 6.0 to 7.4

Insufficient.

Even after combining both the statements we still have 5 values for x.

Hence E


If the question stem would have mentioned x as an integer answer would have been A alone.

This statement in itself is insufficient as it may yield to many values of x.
when x=6.5, x*8=52
when x=7, x*8=56
Insufficient.
2) when x is doubled, the result is between 10 and 15.
x=5.5, 2x=11
x=6, 2x=12
x=6.5, 2x=13
x=7, 2x=14
Like stm1, this too is insufficient

Combining 1+2, we find that two values are satisfying the argument, x=6.5 and x=7.
It is not mentioned that x is an integer, therefore we have to consider non-int numbers as well.
Hence E
