A batch of cookies was divided among three tins 2/3 of all the cookies are placed in Either the blue tin or Green tin, and the rest were placed in the red tin. If 1/4 of the cookies were placed in the blue tin , what fraction of the cookies that were placed in other tins were placed in the green tin

(a) 15/2

(b) 9/4

(c) 5/9

(d) 7/ 5

(e) 9/7

it is easy question but we have to exactly pay attention to the wording of the Q...there was a good point here then i share it for u.... OA after some attempts by u guys :)

Blue & GReen = 2/3

Blue = 1/4 (Cookies excluding those in Blue = 3/4)

Therefore Green = 2/3 - 1/4 = 5/12

We are asked for ratio of Green to those in both Green and red;

That is, (5/12)/(3/4) = 5/9

Let us assume that cookies placed in blue tin = B, green tin = G, red tin = R and let T = total
B + G = 2/3 of T
R = 1/3 of T
B = 1/4
1/4 + G = 2/3
G = 5/12
5/12 + 1/3 = 9/12 (green and red tin)
Ratio of green in that = (5/12)/(9/12) = 5/9

The correct answer is C.

ya the point was the wording of the Q.... first i taught we need to find ratio of green/red+blue while the Q says if the 1/4 cookies are in blue, what is the fraction of otherto the green ones ==> we have to find the ratio of green/green+red

Let the assume the total number of cookies be 12 (LCM of 3 & 4 - both 3 and 4 are found in denominators)
given 2/3 are present in either blue or green =>2/3*12 = 8. -->(a)
so the remaining cookies are present in red tin = 12-8 =4. ---> (b)

Also it is given that 1/4 of the cookies are present in blue tin => 1/4*12 = 3 ---(c)
therefore the number of cookies in green tin are 8-3 =5
so the fraction of cookies placed in greed tin with others than blue (Green + Red) is 5/(5+4) =[spoiler] 5/9[/spoiler]

so the answer is C

Even I was confused with the wordings at first, then was able to solve the question :D
