If k = 1, then k² = 1 and 1 divided by 8 gives a remainder of 1.
If k = 3, then k² = 9 and 9 divided by 8 gives a remainder of 1.
If k = 9, then k² = 81 and 81 divided by 8 gives a remainder of 1.
Looking at the above examples, it can be said that k² divided by 8 will always give a remainder of 1; SUFFICIENT.

(2) When k is divided by 3, the remainder is 2.
If k = 5, then k² = 25 and 25 divided by 8 gives a remainder of 1.
If k = 8, then k² = 64 and 64 divided by 8 gives a remainder of 0.
NO definite answer; NOT sufficient.

The correct answer is A.
