If all the letters of the word CHASM are rearranged to form 5 letter words such that none of the word repeat and the results arranged in ascending order as in a dictionary what is the rank of the word CHASM?

There are 5 letters in the word CHASM, which can be rearranged in 5! = 120 ways
In dictionary, the words starting with A will come first. So fixing A in the 1st place, A _ _ _ _, the remaining 4 letters can be arranged in 4! = 24 ways.
Next, the word starting from C A _ _ _ can be arranged in 3! = 6 ways.
After the above words, next comes C H A _ _, out of which CHAMS will be the 1st one and after that comes CHASM.

Therefore, rank of CHASM = 24 + 6 + 2 = 32
