the points A, B,C,D..

hi guys,
tried to seek this one, but failed. Does any efficient way exist to solve below problem?

if points A,B,C,D are on the number line not necessary in that order,and if the distance between A and B is 18, and the distance between C and D is 8.What is the distance between B and D?
(1)the distance between C and A is the same as distance between C and B
(2)A is to the left of D on the number line
oa is E

Hi,
From(1):
C is the mid point of AB
Possibilities:
A--D------C----------B
A---------C-------D--B
B--D------C----------A
A---------C-------D--B
Not sufficient
From(2): Many possibilities
Both(1) and (2):
A--D------C----------B
A---------C-------D--B
Not sufficient

Hence, E

combining a and b,

D can be either of the two points D1 or D2 at a distance of 8 from C.
hence E it is.
