Hello there guys.

After some prep, I decided to attempt a test with the official GMATprep software. I kept it as realistic as possible, except for the fact that I didn't do the AWA, as I haven't even read what it's about.

But the rest was very similiar to what i think the actual exam will be like: I timed my break, used the Manhattan GMAT test simulation booklet and marker, and tried to manage my time properly.

RESULT: 760, Q50, V41 (GMATprep practice test 2)

1st question: How do the separate Q and V scores scale? because 41 looks A LOT lower than 50, but I don't know if they scale the same way.

2nd question: I read around that the verbal section is changing, especially the SC part (no idioms, more meaning), and a lot of people seems to have reported consistely lower scores in the verbal section in the actual GMAT compared to the prep tests - Is there any material i can find to improve my Verbal performanceas it seems to be my weak spot (especially SC)? or is it all outdated?

3rd question: the AWA - how much time do you think I need to prepare it? I knwo it depends on a lto of factors, but keeping in mind that I haven't done a single essay, what do you reckon?

final question - considering how my pratice test went
(actually I felt I coudl have done better in the Quant section, I was behind in time in the middle so I had to rush several questions, and I got wrong two relatively easy question because I didnt' remember a couple things - also I still have a lot of material to go trough: GMATprep practice test 1, all 6 MGMAT cats, most of the difficult Quantitative Review practice questions, and the MGMAT advanced quant book - I think I can improve my timing quite a lot), when do you think I can take the actual GMAT? I really don't want to score less than 720 in the real thing, and I'd like at least a 5 in the AWA.

Both your quant and verbal scores are balanced. Q50 is 94th percentile and V41 is 90th percentile. You can check your percentile scores in the OG guide.
Only idioms have been phased out and importance have been given to other topics so nothing to worry. OG and more practice will do to improve SC. Try finding all the errors in a wrong answer choice and try to answer questions posted in the forum. Both will help you increase your performance. Use MGMAT SC, the bible for GMAT SC.
3rd question: the AWA - how much time do you think I need to prepare it? I knwo it depends on a lto of factors, but keeping in mind that I haven't done a single essay, what do you reckon?
Depends on you. It hardly takes an hour to understand what to write and how to write for the two questions. OG 12 has sample questions for different ratings. So every time you take a mock try to take it along with AWA, post your essays here and people will rate the essays and you will know where you stand. It is very important to take the essays while taking the mock as your performance is more dependent on your stamina to be concentrated till the end. So never skip AWAs while taking mocks. When you skip AWAs you are taking verbal questions an hour earlier.
when do you think I can take the actual GMAT?
You can go for the test whenever you are consistent with your scores in mocks. If both of your GMATPrep scores are close enough then you don't need to worry. Mocks should be taken with strict testing conditions - do not skip AWA, only 8 min break and no more than that.

Hope this helps !!
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.
