MGMT Page 76 Q 13 explanation

Is this sentence correct? : Our cat is cuter than the cats in the shelter?

Should n't it be : Our cat is cutest among the cats in the shelter.
*(Our cat doesn't live in the shelter, but are we not comparing more than two cats? Should n't we use "cutest" ?)

IMO, cuter and cutest, both are equally good if they go with the intention.

By intention I mean the degree of comparison and it has nothing to do with singular or plural.

Please correct incase wrong.
