clarification needed

In the 1980's the rate of increase of the minority population of the United States
was nearly twice as fast as the 1970's.
(A) twice as fast as
(B) twice as fast as it was in
(C) twice what it was in
(D) two times faster than that of
(E) two times greater than

The OA you have posted is incorrect.

Rate cant't be fast. Rate can be high or low. (Think of 'rate of interest'. It is either higher or lower, but never faster) - Eliminate A, B, D

E is wrong because it is comparing 'rate of increase' with '1970's'.

That leaves us with C.

i stand corrected yes the OA is c and i understand that since they are comparing the rate btw two years it has 2 be either higher or lower...Thanks 4 the response...Appreciated
