Best preperation courses

by erdnah » Mon Jul 16, 2007 7:39 am
Hi,

about a month ago I started preparing for the GMAT and after a first shot of 570 on GMATPrep I felt that there would be a lot of preperation necessary to get to 700, which is my aim. Thus, I started an online course at Manhatten GMAT (https://www.manhattangmat.com/) about two weeks ago and I'm really doing a lot of the course work to get fit until the beginning of september, when I'll take the test.

Altough I'm learning a lot, I think time won't be enough to get the score I'd like to. Now the problem is, that I'll have really less time after the test so that I can't retakte it until next year. Up to that time, I will work with my current materials but I think that another preperation course directly before the test might be useful, when there's such a long time between the first and the second try.

Therefore I found Manhattan Review on the web (https://www.review.de/en/courses/upcomin ... sroom.html). Does anyone know something about Manhatten Review and their courses?

I'm really annoyed with myself that I didn't start preperation earlier... :x

The Manhattan GMAT course

by GCHall840 » Mon Jul 16, 2007 9:21 am
Hi erdnah,
I took the MGMAT virtual online course earlier this year. In my opinion, Manhattan GMAT offers a lot more than just the online course. There are those online problem sets and the challenge problems archives. Honestly, the course that I took covered a lot of material. Plus, they assigned the Official Guide problems at the end of all of the strategy guides as well. It was easy to spend 20 to 25 hours a week on that material when I was doing everything that was assigned for that course. The online class met for 2.5 hours per week and the weekly labs lasted anywhere from an hour to two hours. There were a total of 6 Manhattan GMAT tests plus the two GMATPrep tests that they suggested that we take. So, it was easy to spend that much time, given what I was supposed to do for the class and the additional material that I went through as well.

I really wouldn't take on another prep course if you are taking the GMAT in the beginning of September. I would just do as much as you possibly can in your MGMAT course, making sure that you finish the Official Guide questions from the back of those strategy guides. Honestly, their course was very well organized especially when it came to how that the student was supposed to work through all of that material.

Do you feel as if you are getting the best out of that course? That is why I put in a plug about the additional online material that Manhattan GMAT offers. And, those resources are free to Manhattan GMAT students, too.

Hi Greg,

thanks for the quick response! I'm in an similiar course at MGMAT. I think the only difference is that I can't participate in the only classes; instead, I can only watch the recorded sessions of an older online class.

Seems as if I didn't express my thoughts well enough. I meant that it possibly would be a good idea to take another course if a second try in the following year would be necessary. Starting another course before the test in September would be no more than wasting a lot of money, I think... As you say, the MGMAT materials are really a lot!! I'm currently trying to do all the things of the official study plan... but this doesn't cover all questions in the official guides and so I'm not sure if I should do all of the course or concentrate more on the ogs... Furthermore there are some techniques of which I don't think that they're really helpful, as diagramming in CR for example. I always need too much time for that and so I think I'll waste my time for trying something that won't help me in the end?!
