Is the sum of the integers x and y a prime number?
(1) x is an even prime number.
(2) y is a prime number between 10 and 20.
A. Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient.
B. Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient.
C. BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient.
D. EACH statement ALONE is sufficient.
E. Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient.
Statement (1) x has to be 2. nuff said.
Statement (2) y can be 11, 13, 17 or 19. So again not enough. Combine 1 and 2 x is equal to 2 and y is 11, 13, 17 and 19. Therefore is x+y a prime number depends if y is 11 or 17. So you still don't know the answer, because it can be prime or may not be prime right?
Check: 2+11 = 13 (PRIME!) 2+13 = 15 (NOT PRIME!) 2+17=19 (PRIME!) and finally 2+19 = 21 (NOT PRIME).
I chose E, but the retard who wrote this question claims that the answer is C? Really? Please I need some advice. I think I am going to burn these question sets pretty soon.
Thanks for listening.
