In my opinion, there's really no "bad" reading material when it comes to prepping for reading comp. Many people never read at all, so anything usually helps. That said, I think newspapers make good practice since there are lots of short passages on varied topics.
Also, you should of course be reading all the GMAT passages that you can. Getting used to the way passages are set up and the common question types will definitely help your score.
