Age problem

by Nox40 » Fri Dec 18, 2009 11:02 am
Hello,

I'm 31 year old female and planning to take GMAT in April 2010.
I want to apply to the B schools for fall 2011.

My question is, when I start my MBA I will be about 33 years old. If an applicant is 30 plus years old, could this be held againt the applicant ?

Another question: In an MBA class the age range of schools that I have mentioned below is 24 to 33 and avg is 28.
Will they not review my application ?

I have seven years of work experience now. My GPA is 3.38

Th schools that I want to apply are:

NYU Stern
MIT
Boston Universtiy
Tepper (CMU).

Please let me know.

Thank you

Dear Nox40,

There is no age cutoff for MBA programs, so you will not be excluded based on age. While you will be on the higher end of the experience range at 8 years when you apply, and thus on the higher end of the age range at 33, it is not a negative nor will it count against you in any way. The question in the admissions committee's mind will be more of why you want to do a full-time program versus an executive program as you would be eligible for many executive programs at 8 years of experience. If you are wanting to make a career change, then that is a sufficient reason. Likewise, if you want to have the "full-time experience", be able to immerse yourself in business school and all it has to offer, then that is also a sufficient reason. By no means will you be the oldest applicant or the only one over 30 applying! Most top business school classes have between 20-40% of their classes over 30 years of age.

Best of luck,
Lisa
