Desperate profile review and question

by jshin386 » Sat Feb 04, 2012 4:03 pm
Hi, below are my brief profiles - by the time I apply for MBA

Male/29
Undergrad : LSU - accounting 3 yrs. early graduation
GPA : 3.6 / 4.0
GMAT : 730
Nationality : Korean, Fluent in English and Korean
W/E : English Instructor in big Korean firm for 2 yrs
Samsung Elect. Planning Team 4 yrs
Extra. Curr : AICPA passed
Voluntary work - a monthly volunteer work
- a leader of volunteer work that I formed during my military duty

The reason for chaing the job?
I initially started out my career as an English Instructor only b/c I thought I could establish my own education company later. Soon after, though, I found out that I'm not really interested in education industry, and instead I wanted to focus on Corporate Strategy/Development/M&A deals.

Main Responsbilities at Samsung?
Task Forces : 1. focused on establishing expedieted standard processes for new partnerships with 3rd parties. 2. Creating new strategies to penetrate into new markets for specific products.
- "Successful results"

Outside the Task Force : Executing Joint Venture/M&A/Joint Develoment Project Deals by assisting top managers with terms and manners of each deal.

Questions?
1. I know that I have to demonstrate the reason for changing the job industry in the essay. Are the reasons I stated above sufficient enough to answer such question?
2. Even though it's very hard to tell just looking at my brief profiles, what do you think are my target/reach/safe schools?
3. To be honest, I wanted to work in top consulting firms but it seems that my 2nd tier undergrad. degree is a big block to enter that industry. If I get a MBA degree from TOP universities, is it possible to work as a strategic consultant in US (I do have a permanent resident card)? Or will my undergrad degree still prevent me from entering the consulting industry?
4. What can I do for now to improve chances for admission to top MBA programs?

Thank you in advance for helping me out. :)

1. Yes. But you should also connect your reasons to your FUTURE. Meaning what does this have to do with your long term goals?
2. You are right. It's hard to say with such a brief profile. but with those numbers and four years at Samsung you can apply to any and all programs.... to give your strategy a good balance and chance of getting accepted, we need a bit more info.
3.Totally possible. Especially if you a=get an accept from a strong school. Consulting companies take people with an UG degree in almost anything.
4. Leadership, leadership, leadership and leadership. volunteering. Get promoted. Start your own business. There are other things of course, but this is a good start.
