MBA or not !

by AGmatHopefull » Wed May 04, 2011 4:51 am
Dear Sir/Madam,

Am an Metallurgical Engineer from REC (NIT), Durgapur, India.
Although, have a degree in the same, am working in the IT arena
(Certified Oracle Developer) for the last 10 years. Have worked
for companies such as MBT, Polaris, CSC, Merrill Lynch, India.
Have 15 certifications in Oracle and its Tools. 38 years old.

Would appreciate if you could provide guidance/insight on the
queries:

What is the level of compensation offered to MBAs
from Top US and Indian B-Schools ?

The reason why I am asking you this questions is
firstly, I have a 100K p.a. offer from a US company.
Secondly, have an offer from IBM to work in their
Technology division here in India. My line of thinking
is that if I work with IBM for a year, they can offer to
sponsor me for the MBA in India through the in-company
MBA programs. Since, IBM also has a Consulting division
they can utilize my newly - acquired skills in
Business and transfer me from Technology to
Consulting. I would like this to happen since
I have an interest in Management Consulting.
Coming back to the first point where I had
quoted 100K as the salary, do US companies
have a policy of lateral hiring ( considering
my 10 years of experience in IT), and offer
me a better designation/compensation upon
completion of the MBA, Or, they will take
me at par with other MBA students ?

Your guidance/insight will be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Ravi
