Read like this: The direction, in which...spin, was determined by...=> The direction...was & planets...spin. We can also solve by idiom..correct idiom is 'determined by' only.

i was sure that it was spin
but i am not sure either it was 'collision',noun that found out that with other bodies(subject)

or it was because of collision(an action or as a result of an action) it was found out....
E sounds more logical to me

Spin - We are talking about Earth, mercury, venus and mars
was - we are talking about the direction.

Hence D.
"Native of" is used for a individual while "Native to" is used for a large group

Here Subject-Verb agreement & Idiomatic usage is tested!

the direction(Singular Subject) ----- was(singular verb)

the Earth and the other solid planets-Mercury, Venus, and Mars(compound subject/plural) --- spin(plural)

"determined by "--- idiomatic usage!!

Pick D
