Plan to achieve 750 from 490( 44Q, 19 V)

by arunima88 » Wed Feb 01, 2012 10:35 pm
I have 18 months of work experience in power sector... i appeared for CAT and got 71.1 percentile ( 90 percentile in Quants and 34 percentile in Verbal). I know the score is very disastrous.

I am planning to take GMAT in this June. Please suggest me what should be my approach...

My first GMAT prep score was 490 (again disastrous). The score was only 44Q, 34 V...:(

Kindly suggest...

CAT and GMAT are different ball game. Don't judge yourself with your CAT score. Here is a CAT passage with GMAT experts view on this:

Dont judge your verbal level with your CAT score. 34 in verbal is a decent score - in your first practice test.
For non native speakers, verbal is the major concern - so start with it first. Since you have recently given CAT, you can easily cope up with GMAT maths with 2 weeks practice - as the only section you have to work is DS.

This score seems not to correlate properly. 44 in quant and 34 in verbal will fetch you something around 630-640, not 490.

Hope this helps !!

I would suggest to first target 650-700 and once you are there then target 750. Prepration needs different strategies in these 2 steps. From 500 to 650, its all about fundamentals; from 650 to 750 its all about speed and stamina.
