Knewton:Diagnostic test . Not too sure if they are correct

Hi,
I just took the free diagnostic test from knewton and score a measly 590

Quant : 42 (30 correct 7 wrong)
Verbal 30. (27 Correct 14 wrong)

Quant: Question number answered incorrectly: 5, 6 , 9 ,11,28, 29 and 36. If you see the pattern and deviation, my incorrect answer are spread and which means that I should have got tougher question in 700-800 level a lot (That was not the case).
I compared my scores from MGMAT cat test where I had 9-11 questions wrong and had score of 47. There were 18 questions from 700-800 level. Something does not look right with knewton diagnostic.

Verbal: I agree that I am weak in verbal, cannot be too sure on verbal. Answered incorrectly

Quant score is definitely wrong. Verbal seems comparable ,but you can add 3-4 points in Verbal in my opinion.

I had the same problem on the test I took more than a month ago, and was told that the formula had been revised. But I guess if you're posting the issue right now, the problem has not been resolved.

**Sighs** Thought the same ...... however it took me 2 hours to get over it..... It's situtations like these that makes one question ..... Will hit Hit the magic score of 7xx....

Yeah, I actually took it yesterday and scored a 630. I was extremely distracted during the test, losing about 20 minutes total (and there's no pause button). But even so, given the difficulty of the questions, the score seemed awfully low compared to the MGMAT and GMAT Prep tests I have taken. I'm really only giving any validity to GMAT Prep and MGMAT results. I score lower on MGMAT, but it's generally in the ballpark.

In knewton test, I got scaled score of 39 ( only 6 wrong )

The Knewton test aren't scored accurately. With their promotion thing, I took their exam 4 days after scoring a 730 on the real exam and I scored a 620 on their diagnostic.

I do not agree. I gave the Knewton's diagnostic and got 700 (Q48,V37) and the next day got 680(Q50,V31) in GMT Prep 1.

In my opinion they are very close to the actual exam.

I agree I like 'em. Perhaps not the Quant (too easy - but compensate with tough scoring) but the verbal (which is tougher for prep company to get right) def. high quality .. it sux that u gotta pay 200 bucks for their course to get access to their tests. They should sell 'em seperately!

Well, thaks for your input everyone. Good or bad scoring ...... doesn't matter as long as I get GMAT level questions to practice, I am happy.

FYI, I took the free Platinum GMAT test a couple of days ago and I think that one is excellent. The quant section seemed more representative of GMAT Prep than any other test (MGMAT is good, but clearly more difficult). The verbal section seemed a bit harder than GMAT Prep, but was of very high quality.

I agree with the posters here. I took Knewton CAT recently and scored only 600 (Q45, V28). I got only a few qns (5) wrong in Quant, yet I got only Q45 as scaled score. Having said that, however, I would like to point out that the Knewton Verbal section was pretty good, especially CR questions seemed to be of good quality.

Agree to / I think Knewton scores are lower than what you get for equivalent GMAT Prep results.

I got 650 (Q39,V42), with 8 mistakes in Quantitative and 6 in Verbal. With GMAT Prep, I got 720 (Q48,V45) with 9 (!) mistakes in Quant and 3 in Verbal. I think the Quant score is the one which is really biased downwards, because a difference of Q39 vs Q48 is too much...even with 1 wrong question less!.


/keeps hope that actual GMAT score will be higher than Knewton sim ;-)

Following your all posts, is it worth taking free Knewton test especially for verbal ? Please confirm .

Yeah, I would take the test to practice both Quant and Verbal, as it is a good quality test for your skills. However, the final Total score and the Quant Score are calculated in a weird way and are too low. Check the number of questions you got wrong and compare it to GMAT Prep.

The Verbal score is nearer to a score that GMAT Prep would give you.
