Advice needed on MBA stream to take

by xer0zon3 » Sun Nov 03, 2013 10:35 am
Hi All,
I have a 5 year experience in the IT industry and would like to expand my domain by doing an MBA. I definitely do not want to let go waste of the 5 years of knowledge i gained working in the IT industry. The Consultancy and Product Manager stream seem to interest me in this regard. I would be very thankful if anybody could let me know the various options open for me and the colleges that i can target.
Also, I am yet to give GMAT and plan for it sometime in January 2014. Would that be late for applications for classes starting Spring 2014?

Thanks in advance.

Hello there!
Most people consider doing an MBA degree either to advance their career (remaining in the same industry/company), or to switch tracks. Given your background, tech consulting and product management are both viable career options for you, but these aren't the only ones. Why don't you take a look at this article, where I've discussed post-MBA career options in technology? It will be a good starting point for your research.

The best way to learn more about these careers is by talking to people who are in these roles. You could tap your personal network, or connect with people in these roles over LinkedIn, and discuss with them. Some other online career research resources you may find useful are Wetfeet and Vault.

Hope this helps.

It's way too late! Applications are due for Round one in October!!! So you can apply in 2014 to matriculate in 2015 though.
