time required to prepare for GMAT

Hi forum members,
i'm new here, and really in state of confusion.
i've purchased Kaplan Premier Program 2008. i seriously have only one month for preparation for the real test. as i've to submit scores by feb 2008
few people told one needs atleast 3 months for preparation!!

right now i'm really confused should i apply for exam? what would be your suggestion is one month really sufficient? why one month coz test center told me it takes around 20 days for results to appear online

please advise me and would really appreciate any special guidance.

I just took the GMAT yesterday and I had only 2 and a half weeks to study. I didnt do as good as I had been doing on the GMATprep tests, so I am going to take it a second time soon. My best advise would be to get the GMAT official guide book (I have the 11 edition) and study all you can from that, because those questions are just like the ones on the test and some are even on the test. I also would STRONGLY encourage you to take the GMATprep practice tests several times in order to get used to how the test will be. Timing is everything on this test.

thankyou very much for your replies.
Eric I must appreciate for your work on this site and your blog is awesome.

however as I mentioned I've Kaplan's Premier Program book with me and
I really don't think buying one more books is going to be useful considering I'm left with mere 1month for preparing+testing.
but you've emphasised on buying OG so I was thinking if I buy OG and prepare or even the book I've is enough.
I really cant take leaves from work to prepare

as i just finished my long vacation.
I'll keep asking questions on this forum as its really nice one

I'll go and fetch OG Review 11the Ed and then if time permits i'll go through kaplan test.

I just want to point out why people are recommending OG over all other study sources: these are questions from the people who make the test, and all of these questions appeared on the official test in the past. No matter what method you use to study, or what prep company you work with, you need OG b/c those are the only REAL materials out there.

How many hours per day on average for 2-3 months ?
Of course it varies from person to person, but how many hours per day should someone aiming for a 700+ score be studying over the 2 month timeframe ?
