Retake advice needed

by kristoph16 » Mon Apr 07, 2008 2:17 pm
Hello,
Thank you all for your help in the past few months.
BUT I really need some serious help / advice / methods to drastically improve my score!

I took the gmat last saturday and completed bombed it...
I am quite surprised at how poorly I did.
470 20Q 30V

Maybe someone can help me explain it, and/or help me to study in a more effective manner in my study efforts before I retake next month.

I've always been pretty good at math, I think maybe I just overthought too many of the easy questions and didn't check my work.

I thought I was going to nail it when the first question popped up, but after I did the calculations my answer wasn't one of the choices so my confidence went down the tubes. Then I was rushed after spending too much time on these easy ones. Stubbornly retrying to get the right answer because I knew that I knew how to do them.

I went through the OG book, took both prep test 2 times each and was scoring in the high 500 - 600 range.

My initial thoughts are too download the mgmat tests, and order the quantitative study book. But I really think it was just a stubborness / confidence issue.

Are there any materials out there to help pinpoint what areas you need help in?

thank you!

I would suggest you review the Resources section of the forum for inputs. You need to identify the areas you need to concentrate through your prep. To overcome the mental block, you need to take more practice tests to build the concentration and strength to endure the actual test.
