Question on HBS 2+2

by person999 » Mon Jul 04, 2011 5:58 pm
Hello

I am in my 3rd year of university and am very interested in the HSB 2+2 program when I graduate in 2013. I'm wondering what my chances are with my current stats.

GPA: ~3.0 in Engineering from a top Canadian school
Background: Asian male
GMAT: Anticipating 700-740
WE:
- 4 months as a software test associate
- 4 months as a software developer
- 4 months as a software engineer
- 4 months as a research analyst
- 4 months as a hardware design engineer
- another 4 month internship yet to be determined
EC: not much in this area, used to be the president of a school athletic club but resigned since it was impacting my grades too much

Also, my father owns a fairly large real estate development company in China. There is a chance that I would choose to take the reins from him when he retires. Should I include this in my application or downplay it?

The 2+2 program is quite competitive. A GPA of 3.0 is going to hurt you, unless there was a strong uptick towards the end. Your GMAT would need to be 740 plus vs the bottom of the range you mention.

In terms of your father, yes this could work nicely in the why you want to pursue an MBA question. Just focus on specific things you would need to learn during the program to best position yourself for this future transition.

I would also look beyond this program and start thinking how to position yourself for a broader school selection in 3-4 years.

I work with 2+2 and MBA clients each season, so please let me know if you need further assistance.
