Here's my profile:

* Indian IT/34/m - Project Manager in a Fortune 100 company
* 11+ years work experience in the US and Canada
* Low undergrad GPA (~55%) - CS major from a lesser known college in India
* 3.3 GPA in computer science MS degree from a mid-tier US university
* 720 GMAT (48Q,41V,6.0 AWA)
* Limited extra-curricular activities (volunteering at work, treasurer of a student org)

My target school is Kellogg (part-time program). Looking for expert feedback on two areas:

1. Recently, I started taking MBA level courses at a local university and am averaging a 3.75 GPA in the four courses taken so far. I'm hoping this alternative transcript, in addition to my MS GPA (3.3) will help offset the sub-par undergrad GPA.

Thoughts and suggestions on how to approach this in the optional essay would be great.

2. I participated in some student clubs while in college. I volunteer for activities at work, mentor junior colleagues etc..but bottom line, I don't engage in as much community service as I would like.

I have very little to show for, on the community service front :( Any suggestions on how to address this weakness in my profile would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your help!

Part-time programs focus more on your professional profile.

In any case, it just seems like you're focused on your weaknesses. For the applications, you should be spending most of your effort on emphasizing your strengths (your work experience and expertise). Your GPA is what it is (you can't undo the past, and frankly I think you're overly concerned about - it's ancient history for you, and the adcoms will be looking at your GMAT anyway). As for extracurriculars, you can't do anything about that.

Again, focus on your strengths. No one is perfect.

Thanks much for your feedback, Alex. It is much appreciated! Your post also gives me a good sense of what part-time MBA adcoms look for.

Also, I had a chance to look at your website and this page is cool:

Especially the part comparing business schools to luxury cars! I guess Volkswagen is what I want :)

Cheers!
